Founded in 2018, Pompke has become a neighbourhood establishment in Scheveningen. It has revolutionised the Dutch concept of a Dutch Koffiehuis with its burst of colour, jungle of plants and gastro-style menu. Where once there was a dark and gloomy cafe selling croquettes and microwave-cappuccinos… There now sits the warm and inviting Pompke!

Rebuilt in 2018 by local legend Diederik – who still lives three doors down and frequents Pompke daily with his adorable family – and coffee shop aficionado, Esther, Pompke was born! At first serving coffee and even dinners late into the night, Pompke has survived many changes including the Covid pandemic and is now a beloved café open 9-5.

But of course it is not only this! The effervescent heart of Pompke that is Esther runs events throughout the year from garden yoga to soup & jazz nights and from linoprinting courses to monthly outdoor cinema evenings – all within the confines of Pompke itself!

These days people don’t come to Pompke just for their oat latte. They come to have their day brightened by one of the bubbly baristas, to soak up the sun on a hand-quilted blanket or to let their children colour by the forest (and maybe to sneak a caramel shortbread for later).

For breakfast, soup, sandwiches, cakes, coffee, laughter, smiles – Pompke is the spot to be.

Esther is our lovely Pompke Pioneer who started it all.
Her contagious laugh and heartwarming pep talks are guaranteed to make you feel good. She studied at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague and you really see her creativity shine in and around Pompke. In her free time she makes art using the lino press, goes for a swim in the sea (yeah, all year round!) or test coffee at other cafe’s. Have you tried her favorite Pompke-pie, the date-peanut pie yet?
